Our next network meetings will take place at the Natural History Museum in London during the first week of March.
Our Second Network Training Activity concluded on December 18. The event was a great success, in part due to the support of our colleagues at the Pusat Survei Geologi during our stay in Indonesia.
In early November 2010, Vibor Novak joined the throughflow team as an Early Stage Researcher based at NCB Naturalis. Vibor will study the stratigraphy and ecology of larger benthic foraminifera. Our team is now complete and recruitment is closed. Welcome to all of the THROUGHFLOW ESRs.
We are happy to announce the recruitment of Nathan Marshall as a new Early Stage Researcher at Utrecht University. Nathan is finishing his MSc at the University of Cincinnati, and will join the throughflow stratigraphy team.
We would like to welcome two more Early Stage Researchers to the THROUGHFLOW network. Nadia Santodomingo (NHM) will study the history of reef-coral biodiversity, and Bill Wood (RHUL) will use isotope and trace element geochemistry to reconstruct local environmental conditions in the Miocene deposits of East Kalimantan.
The first network training activity for the throughflow itn will take place next week, July 4-July 9 at Royal Holloway University of London. During the event, Prof. Robert Hall will present an Introduction to the Geology of SE Asia, and a brief introduction to Geographic Information Systems for field geology. Network Board meetings are also planned for Thursday July 8 and Friday July 9. For more information, see the event programme.
Congratulations and welcome to our newly recruited Early Stage Researchers, including Amanda Frigola Boix (Bremen), Elena Lo Giudice Cappelli (CAU, Kiel), Nicholas Fraser (CAU Kiel), Anja Roesler (Granada), Simone Arragoni (Granada), Sonja Reich (NCB Naturalis), and Emanuela di Martino (NHM). We look forward to announcing four additional new ESRs after they join the team in the next few weeks.
We are no longer accepting applications for the Early Stage Researcher posts within the network. Applications are currently being reviewed and offers will be made to the successful candidates. We would like to thank all those who have expressed interest in these posts are very pleased to have so many very well qualified candidates to consider.
The Marie Curie Initial Training "THROUGHFLOW" started on January 1, 2010. We are currently recruiting 11 PhD students to join the project as Early Stage Researchers. Project topics include palaeobiodiversity of bryozoans, calcareous algae, corals, large benthic formaninifera, and molluscs as well as stratigraphy, sedimentology, geochemistry, paleoceanography, and ocean modelling.
Application Deadline 30 March 2010
See the THROUGHFLOW Project Pages for more information
Planning is underway for the January 2010 start of the THROUGHFLOW Marie Curie Initial Training network supported under Framework 7 of the European Commission. For more information, see the THROUGHFLOW project page.
